Fitzpatrick’s five star season ends with a fine win for Stretton

Sam Stretton keeps it long after a frantic start against Mitchell

SAM Stretton ensured Leamington’s Fitzpatrick’s Boxing Club ended the season in style.

At Bedworth Ex-servicemen’s Club, the 14-year-old produced a mature performance in a fast paced bout to outpoint Cian Mitchell (Heart of England).

Mitchell set a fast pace from the first bell and hurled a blizzard of punches at the spa town teenager.

Stretton weathered the storm, remained composed and, by the second was producing a cultured performance.

After initial heavy pressure, he steadied the ship.

Officials praised the 60kg fighter for a mature performance. That it was.

The bout drew the curtain on a memorable season for the Gurdwara based Fitzpatrick’s gym, home to both amateurs and pros.

Boss Derek Fitzpatrick said: “This season has been a fantastic one for the club which has seen the gym claim Midlands titles and box at Alexandra Palace.

“We’ve fought on working men’s club shows, world titles bills screened by Sky TV and European title bills shown on Channel 5.

“Whatever the venue, whatever the platform, each and every fight means as much to us. We have a great camaraderie at the gym, with amateurs and professionals all supporting each other. That’s backed by hard work, great sponsors and supportive parents - it’s a recipe for success.

“There are too many individuals to thank, but a special mention for coaches Gage Singh and Raffy Martins for their standout efforts in this successful season.”
