JASMIN Harmitt wants to be active and take the biggest opportunities possible, and she will box for the second time this year on BCB’s Summer Showdown bill at Dudley Town Hall on July 19, writes PAUL WEBB.

The 26-year-old from Dudley Port is unbeaten in two contests since turning pro last June. Her debut against Angelika Oakes at the Eastside Rooms, Birmingham, went the distance, with Harmitt taking a 40-37 points win.

Eight months passed before she climbed through the ropes again, this time at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium. Jasmin gained points victory over Kerry Orton.

“Weirdly, I was more nervous for my last fight than I was for my debut,” said Harmitt. “I knew Kerry was a good fighter and I had been out of the ring for a long time, so those nerves were there. But I got the win, and that’s what matters most of all.

“It has been a strange time with fights falling through and having to be patient when the cancellations happen. Even though I have only had two fights, I have to make it work and I want the big opportunities as soon as possible.”

This will be the closest to home the mother of one has boxed. The quietly spoken, yet confident, lightweight is hoping to see a good number of supporters make the short journey to the town hall, with every ticket sold being so important.

Jasmin said: “We are hoping for a really big turnout. It’s just before the school holidays, so a lot of people will be off the next week. “Hopefully, they can make it to the fight before they go.

“I want to be able to give my son something, to show him I have worked hard and achieved in the sport. I will do what it takes to get there.

*Tickets for Summer Showdown are now priced at £40 standard and £80 ringside VIP from the boxers directly or by emailing info@bcb-promotions.com.
