TICKET-SELLER Brandon Bethell has made an excellent start to life in the paid ranks, and fight number four will see the lightweight step up to six rounds for the first time, writes PAUL WEBB.

The 22-year-old is sure of a noisy reception on June 21 at the Hangar Venue, in Wolverhampton. BCB promotes the “Pride of the Black Country” bill.

Bethell is boxing once again in his home city after winning his first three fights, including a first-round demolition of Logan Paling and a points victory over veteran Liam Richards. Last time out, Bethell faced tricky Lithuanian Simas Volosinas and came away with a shutout on referee Ryan Churchill’s scorecard.

“As the fight gets closer, I’m just feeling excited,” said Bethell. “This time we are stepping it up to six rounds after three good wins over four. I enjoy the longer distance when we spar in the gym, so I think it will definitely suit me and bring out my best.

“When I look back at my fights, there are always things I could have done better. I showed on my debut that I have power, but in the last two contests I have shown I have more to my game, and my fitness is good.”

Bethell trains at the Trojan Martial Arts Academy, in Walsall Wood, where the former kickboxer has built a strong relationship with coach and gym owner Gavin Burrows.

“I love every day in the gym,” Bethell said. “I’m sure a lot of boxers feel the same way and it is all credit to Gav. He puts the time into me, doing three sessions a day, travelling with me to spar, and, yeah, the training can be hard. But as we step up the intensity, I am enjoying it even more.”

Bethell’s army of supporters has shown up in increasing numbers and made plenty of noise for the die-hard Wolverhampton Wanderers fan. Over 300 packed out the Hangar Venue back in March.

“What can I say?” he added. “They are a brilliant crowd - they keep turning out for me again and again. Hopefully, we can get on a televised event soon and they stick with me on the way to the top. I want to push myself and box to the best of my ability and I really think you will see that on June 21.”

The event at the Hangar Venue is also set to feature Midlands champion Jermaine Osbourne-Edwards as well as the unbeaten trio of Gully Powar, Danny Skidmore and Omarah Taylor.

*Tickets for Pride of the Black Country are now available, priced at £40 standard and £80 VIP, from the boxers directly or by emailing info@bcb-promotions.com.
